The Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism received eight awards from the Milwaukee Press Club’s annual Awards for Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism, which were announced today.
This represents the Center’s best showing ever. It received four awards in 2012 and five in 2011.
The announcement of whether each award is gold, silver or bronze will come at the awards dinner on May 17.
University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communication students, working as paid Center interns or in classroom collaborations with the Center’s staff, played critical roles in many of the award-winning projects. The awards were earned in competition with professional news organizations across Wisconsin.
The newest awards recognize stories reported by journalism students in two classroom collaborations with UW-Madison journalism professor Deborah Blum, interactive graphics and photographs produced by students, and reporting, editing and multimedia work by staff members Bill Lueders and Kate Golden; and current or former interns Amy Karon, Kate Prengaman, Lukas Keapproth and five additional journalism students.
Golden and Prengaman swept all three awards in the “Best Innovative Feature” category.
