In the 1990s, only Milwaukee County lost residents.
In the aughts, Milwaukee County gained residents. But rural counties lost them — part of a larger Midwestern pattern, according to a University of Wisconsin-Madison news release from today based on just-released Wisconsin census data.
Also:
• The state’s Hispanic population grew nearly 75 percent, to 336,056 in 2010
• Madison was the fastest-growing town, and Dane the fastest-growing county
• While Milwaukee County grew, the city of Milwaukee shrank to its smallest population since World War II, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
